You can start with 1 and add the others as desired. Recommend Nightfall to start.

Yes, fast and easy, GW is not about leveling but about the play once you get to level 20.

You can solo with heroes and henchmen, AI-controlled allies. Some specific builds can "farm" solo against specific enemies.

The no grind thing can confuse people. While there is no grind to progress through the gamem, most of the time, you can grind if you want to. Some things like FoW armor and titles can require a great deal of grind to complete. The thing is that you don't need any of those things to have a good time in Guild Wars and there's ways to break up the monotony of it all. The cartagropher title for instance will take a lot of time, which could be considered grind, but the scenery changes all the time and you can do quests and farm bosses along the way. There's always something different to do in GW and if you like trying out different classes it doesn't take months to fully level a character to the point where you can tell if its the class for you.

In Prophecies (original Guild Wars), no. It got a slow leveling and gradual learning curve.
In factions, yes. You can reax max level (20) in a day. Very steep learning curve.
In Nightfall, it's somewhere between the two, but a bit more on the slower side. DO NOT LET THE LEVEL CAP BOTHER YOU! Getting to level 20 is just the beginning of GW Figuring out how to best use your skills in any situation is the thing GW players should be striving for.

PvP is group based. PvE is geared towards group play, too. But you don't have to go with other players, you can take henchmen with you, and if you get Nightfall, you can take heros (customizable henchmen) with you when questing.

Welcome to our forums. I hope you buy Guild Wars and join us in the game.

There is basic info about the game on http://www.guildwars.com which is the official website.

The place to go (other than these forums) to learn about basic gameplay, profession descriptions, weapons, armor, skills, etc. is http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Main_Page

And, as stated in prior posts, the focus of GW is on skills and how well you use them, not on high levels. There are no "uber" weapons or armor, once you obtain either with max stats, everything else available is just vanity skins with no additional benefits. Joining a guild is not a requirement, but can add to the game with assistance and companionship.

I think it's also worth noting that Guild Wars isn't a role-playing game in the same sense that WoW is, and I don't think it's all that valid to directly compare the two and say that one is better than the other. They're two VERY different games.

Guild Wars, to me, is really more of an action/adventure strategy game than a role-playing game. There is very little role-playing to do. You're going to spend the vast majority of your time at level 20 (the max level) working on combat and build strategies. Whether they be PvP or PvE strategies, this game is about combat and not much else.

I just wanted to point that out clearly before you purchase the game thinking that you're in for a rich role-playing experience like many other role-playing games. That said, I love Guild Wars and find it to be a lot of fun, but I never feel like I'm role-playing...that aspect just isn't really there, nor is it meant to be.
